Nevada hospitals to submit quality, cost of care information

A law recently passed in Nevada continues a national trend to require hospitals to submit information on the quality and cost of care to the state. The new law that went into effect on July 1st, will provide consumers with details of hospitals' quality of care and the cost of treatment. This information will be available on a Web site, by 2009.

Currently, Nevada Hospital Association provides basic, facility-specific information about services and charges via their Website (www.nvpricepoint.net), but does not report on quality of care.

Under this new legislation, hospitals wil be required to report patients' average length of stay, the average charge for the 50 most frequent diagnosed illnesses and methods employed to improve patients' recovery.
